A study from Dr. Olujimi Ajijola MD PhD team at UCLA shows that a single low dose (5 Gy) of cardiac radiation significantly improves electrical conduction and reduces ventricular arrhythmias in a mouse model of nonischemic cardiomyopathy. The antiarrhythmic effect is linked to preserved and more homogeneous sympathetic cardiac innervation, rather than macrophage reduction alone, highlighting a novel neuro-cardiac mechanism underlying low-dose cardiac radiotherapy.
In this study, an electrical mapping system equipped with a 64-channel microelectrode array (MEA) was used to acquire and construct epicardial activation maps. The recorded data were then processed using EMapScope software to calculate activation time (AT), AT heterogeneity, and conduction velocity.
