Optical Mapping:By incubating the sample with fluorescent dyes and using an excitation light source to induce the emission of fluorescence, a high-speed camera captures the emitted light and records fluorescence changes, which reflect variations in voltage or ion concentrations within cardiac tissue. This method enables simultaneous recording of action potentials and calcium signals.

Application of Optical Mapping Equipment in Atrial Fibrillation Research

Atrial fibrillation, when severe, can lead to heart failure and is associated with high rates of disability and mortality. In this study, researchers demonstrated that thoracotomy surgery tends to induce atrial fibrillation, with postoperative atrial fibrillation being the most common complication following cardiac surgery. By constructing relevant models, the mechanisms underlying susceptibility to atrial fibrillation are elucidated.

The upper-left corner of the image displays waveforms of several types of cardiac electrical activity, including normal sinus rhythm, pacing, ectopy, and reentry. These waveforms are presented via electrocardiogram (ECG) and atrial potential (AP) tracings, illustrating the characteristics of cardiac electrical activity under different conditions. This provides an intuitive visualization of the susceptibility to atrial fibrillation across different experimental groups.
